Around the House~

Well the holidays are fast approaching and another year will soon be passing.I have so much to truly be grateful for this year and at the same time I have suffered Great loss and heartache along the way.One thing I do know for certain is that I'm never alone and God knows and sees and He will get me through whatever life throws at me.I'm so thankful to have met so many sweet and crafty gals while trying to figure out all this blogging stuff.You girls have inspired me and put a new song in my heart (one of wood,paint,and craftiness!)
I'm so inspired and go to bed at night with dreams of many new projects dancing around in my head:) This has been so much fun for me and even my daughter of 13 ooopps  14 next week!, has been helping me learn how to "link up" and other such things.

Ive already got a whole list of projects that I cant wait to share with you and I'm even getting help from one of my NEW blogger friends all the way over in Connecticut,Shes Da BOMB!!!
The Ruby Slippers,"Theres no place like Home" These are so very special from the Land of Oz....................
From my family to yours I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!

A Roadside Rescue "Before and After"

Well I just finished my total freebie roll top secretary desk!I am so happy with the vintage look that I achieved. I got this old broken down desk for free and brought it home and made my own chalk paint in Turquoise, then I went over it with an inky brown watered down acrylic paint.After just winging it and hoping for the best I gave it 2 coats of wax and that's all she wrote!It just makes me smile when I see it:)Now for the "AFTER"

A Whimsicle Rug

The other day as I was viewing pinterest I came across a really cool idea by Shannon Berrey. It was a rug made out of the foamy link blocks that our kids use as a rug to play on.For months I have been meaning to buy one of those pricey kitchen chef mats but due to my lack of funds I was thrilled to make this one.

These are so easy to make that its almost ridiculous,you need a package of foam floor blocks,primer acrylic paint and a sealer of your choice.
All you do is prime paint and seal and your good to go!I just was having fun and missing my garden so I put a bit of whimsey on mine.My 13 year old loved it so much that we are going to make a ginormous one for her room{only with a cool design lol}
Have fun creating your foam rug:)

Homemade Peppermint Marshmallows

Well I couldn't resist making these treats for my kids to put in their cocoa its tradition around here to make these every year.These are so easy to make and even more fun to eat!
1)vegetable oil cooking spray
2)2 cups sugar
3)4pkgs unflavored gelatin{1/4 oz each}
4)1 tsp peppermint extract
5)2 large egg whites
6)1tsp red food coloring,1tsp green food coloring
1)coat a 9 by 13 inch baking pan with cooking spray set aside.In a saucepan put sugar, and corn syrup and 3/4 cups water. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly till boiling raise heat to med-high cook for about 15 minutes or till syrup registers 260degrees on a candy thermometer.
2)Meanwhile sprinkle gelatin over 3/4 cup water in a heatproof bowl,let stand to soften 5 minutes.Set the bowl over a pan of simmering water whisking constantly till dissolved.Stir in peppermint extract,set aside.
3)Beat egg whites in a bowl with the whisk attachment until stiff peaks form.Whisk gelatin mixture into sugar mixture with mixer running,gradually add to egg whites.Mix on high speed till very thick 12-15 minutes.
4)Pour mixture into pan working quickly,drop dots of food coloring across surface of marshmallows.Using a toothpick swirl food coloring into marshmallows to get a marbleized look.Let stand at room temp to firm up 3 hours or overnight.Cut into squares.

Waiting for Snow~

Its now the 9th of December up here in the great white north with one exception,no snow yet.This is very odd for this time of the year and try as I might I just cant seem to get in the holiday mood.Oh Ive trimmed the tree and decked the halls and the stockings are all hung on my new homemade mantel with care,but somethings missing....
Even our beloved dog Jack has got his holiday groove on....
You see he really is taking this all quite seriously but hes not fooling me because theres nothing he would like better than to frolic in some fresh white powder!
I'm sure I will be taking all this back after I've shovelled the driveway for the umpteenth time or when the snowplow plows me in with 3 foot of snow at the end of my freshly shovelled driveway and then they drive away snickering.But for now it would be so nice to see a bit of the white stuff blanketing my green leafy lawn and making those outdoor lights twinkle and sparkle as the snow gently falls..........

Knock-Off Ballards "Iced Pinecone Ornaments"

So as I was perusing the pages of my Ballards Christmas catalog,I was shocked to see these glittery pine cones that they are charging 15 dollars for a set of three! Every year my kids and I go out in the yard and gather pine cones to glitter for our tree so imagine my surprise when i spied these pine cones.

All you need to make these spectacular beauties are,1} Pine cones 2} glitter any color 3} craft wire 4}Any kind of white glue 5}A Glue gun 6}sea glass you can find it at any craft store cheap! 7} ribbon or twine  and a hammer to smash the sea glass:)
Sorry its so blurry but this is the sea glass they have many colors.All we did was to wrap the wire around the top of the pine cone and twist.Next we put the sea glass in a sock and smashed it.Now all that's left to do do is glue and glitter and add some twine or ribbon to the top now watch these babies SPARKLE!!!
