Curbside Treasure

Im SO excited to be showing you my latest newest project. Its another before and after that didnt cost me a cent as I already had everything on hand.Over the summer my kids and I went around our neighborhood to some garage sales and at the last house we spotted this old trunk "and I do mean OLD"

I went over and asked the lady how much and she said "just take it" because a long time ago she was at a garage sale and an old lady gave it to her because it was her husbands.Well I loaded it up and home it came with me and I knew exactly what I was going to do with this wonderful old box of memories.
first I set it outside in the sun for a few days to get the musty smell out.Next I sprayed it all over with Rustolium antique white inside and out.

Next I drilled 4 holes in the bottom of the trunk to attach the really cool round legs that I had left over from my old furniture. After they were liquid nailed on I proceeded to modge podge on some sheet music wrapping paper that I burned with matches to give it an aged appearence. Then I had some big sheets of styrofoam in the garage so I hot glued some red Paisley material that was in my craft room to the cut down pieces of styrofoam and slipped them into the trunk like a glove! They fit Perfectly:) WHEW!!
Now onto the finishing touch,I got an old board that was hangin around in our garage and jigsawed the corners sanded them roughed the whole thing up a bit and attached it to the trunk top again with some liquid nail and thats all she wrote folks!! My NEW trunk table:)
Oh I almost forgot to say that I gave the trunk a nice coat of clear poly as I wanted it to have a yellowed aged look as time went on just as I ripped and burned the paper:)Please DO tell me what you think.

I'm with the previous commentor on this, I cannot BELIEVE it's the same chest! You totally transformed it, it looks so cute now! I've seen a couple similar chests at Goodwill and I never gave them a second glance just because I couldn't bear the thought of cleaning up all the grime. I totally love this look :)
